Jeanine Longley for Port Moody Council
A Port Moody for living your whole life within.
Why I'm running for city council
I’ve always been passionate about getting involved.
Whether that’s being a venue captain for the Fringe Festival, or as the elected President of Product BC, I’m driven to take responsibility for making things better. I’m never satisfied with “It’s always been that way; that’s why,” and I work hard to improve things for everyone involved.
I learned that municipal policies impact an estimated 50% of our carbon emissions as a country and that city councils have great influence on both the day-to-day issues in our communities but also the large scale generational issues like climate change.
This inspired me to step up and offer my services to my community.
As a Director of Product I have learned how to engage diverse groups of people - getting us aligned around a shared mission and plan, and then getting it done.
I want to bring that “Get it done” attitude to Port Moody, my beautiful home!
Platform
What I stand for
A Port Moody for Living In
Affordable Housing
Housing that is affordable and suits the needs of our community. Towers need to be contributing to our amenities, community spaces, and/or city purse. We also need mid-density options; townhomes, duplexes, and the like.
Reduced Carbon Emissions
Doing our part to protect the future generations from catastrophic climate change while adapting to the climate impacts we already face.
Reduced Car Congestion
Reducing the need to drive everywhere to ensure our mental health, physical health, and city congestion is all improved!
Increasing Local Businesses
Provide local business owners what they need to succeed, and ensure our economy grows for us and by us.
Supporting Economic Growth
Planning and zoning for economic growth in the region to ensure there are jobs in Port Moody and the amenties and services we want.
An Economy that works for us
Supporting Local Businesses
We need to shift decision-making power from corporate interests to the public - workers, small business owners, and our community at large. Attracting tourism spending is one part of a functional plan to build a robust local economy, but we also need to ensure we have the amenities and stores we require as residents. I want to ensure as our population grows, our economy grows through the strength of local business owners supplying what is needed for Port Moody residents.
Tackling the "main drag" that is a drag at 5pm
Climate Friendly Congestion Solutions
Great public transportation with usable bikeways and pathways offer alternative options to driving, which in turn reduces congestion and our carbon emissions. We need to ensure there are alternative options to driving across town every time you need something, which means alternative methods of transportation and also localized options for groceries and other everyday essentials.
Affordable Housing
Development that Fits our Community
Housing needs to be affordable and suitable to the needs of the community. Decisions about the needs of our community need to be unbiased - this is why I’ll never take funding from developers. The affordability crisis throughout our region is undeniable and we need to do everything we can to bring down costs; while also recognizing that residents in Port Moody deserve homes that have enough space to live and grow.
